IMPORTANT FACTORS TO NOTE:

As FANS look forward the release of the “Return of the Cuckoo” movie, lead actor Julian Cheung has confirmed seriously to the media that there will not be a sequel for the upcoming movie. Well, money speaks and we shall see if this is going to happen.

The movie version which continues from the award-winning TVB drama of the same name some 15 years ago, features the returning cast of the original 20-episode TVseries: Julian Cheung, Charmaine Sheh and Nancy Sit, along with Joe Chen as the new addition to the impressive cast.

During the press conference of “Return of the Cuckoo”, when asked about if there’s any possible sequel for the movie, Julian Cheung firmly told the press that there might not be a sequel after all. He urged the press to emphasize this fact and not to miss this excellent movie.  We shall never know if this is a sales gimmick. The future is not ours to see.

So never mind if you haven’t watch the 2000 TV series of the same name that inspired this movie spin-off.

RATING 4 OUT OF 5

LOCAL DISTRIBUTOR: GSC MOVIES

Hong Kong romance Return Of The Cuckoo, set in Macau, boasts an uncomplicated storyline.

Old friends Man Cho (Julian Cheung) and Kwan-Ho (Charmaine Sheh) are reunited when the latter, having migrated to the US, suddenly appears at Man Cho mum’s (Nancy Sit) birthday party.

It doesn’t take long before Man Cho realises that Kwan-Ho is suffering from severe depression following the death of her husband and children in an accident.

He foils her suicide attempt and encourages her to get back on her feet. Soon, they fall in love.

Fans of Cheung and Sheh, as well as ardent fans for soap operas will enjoy the duo’s solid acting.

For viewers with more discerning tastes, the film might come across as cheesy and melodramatic.

MAIN STORY
After many years of hardship, Aunty Q (Nancy Sit) have experienced the joys and sorrows of life.

Most important is that the old group are still together, striving, sharing and rejoicing of the long gone years that have flown.

Out of the blue, Man-Cho (Julian Cheung) learns that his cancer is in the terminal stage with less than half year to live…
