HELLO!

It’s ANDIE CHEN revisited.

With numerous requests from ardent fans, we’ve decided to run another feature on him.

And why not?

In a sea of Singaporeans, this dude has a humbling aptitude.

YES, he can be daring and dauntless .

But he’s focused in his directions.

He is still reeling from his baddie-with-a-soul role in FIGHTING SPIDERS.

Not easy, I know ANDIE ponders.

“But I am darn proud of the character I played and I gave my all,” he adds.

His role is dark and it demanded a gamut of raw emotions – angst, anguish and pain.

He had shed real tears, searing deep into  his soul.

And long after the Director shouted  “CUT!” his reel character was still deeply entrenched in his persona.

“My best role so far,” he enthuses.

FIGHTING SPIDERS is the newest offering from Singapore Media Corp Channel 5.

Following the success of LITTLE NONYA, this 13 coming-of-age-episoders is smartly targeted at mass appeal.

In ANDIE’s own words, “FIGHTING SPIDERS explores teenage bonding, love and family amid a chaotic backdrop of gangsterism, corrupted police, sex, drugs, sleazy alleyways and murders.”

For baby boomers, it’s a direct BLAST FROM THE PAST.

You are transported on a mystical journey to a bygone era -

the delightful 60’s in Singapore.

Walking down memory lane?

Let FIGHTING SPIDERS hit you with pure nostalgia.

It’s set in 1968 SINGAPORE, a heartwarming and soul scorcing tale of coming to terms with the angst of growing up.

Kampongs with character, old railway tracks that speak volumes, the dazzling Chinatown that sparkles, the colourful Ah Bengs and Ah Lians, and ahh…old age charms such as fighting spiders and fishes, notwithstanding the puppy loves and heartbreaks.

It’s steeped in memories of days gone by …

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARN FROM YOUR ROLE?

A lot, in fact.

In LIFE, there are some bonds that can never be broken.

You might be able to find that special someone who’ll stand by you, no matter what.

There’s also the chance that the one person you can count on is the same person who has been standing beside you all along.

Never take anyone or anything for granted.

ANDIE’s parting shot:

It’s really awesome to be involved in such a meaningful-albeit-heartwarming project such as FIGHTING SPIDERS.

He adds:

I am a fighter, I am a survivor.

Do not scorn a weak cub.

He may one day become a brutal tiger.

Wise words from a  young actor.
