Hong Kong’s EDISON CHEN destroyed careers of his love-struck damsels, then bolted unceremoniously under the April rain.

This one’s a lot more sensible.

Singapore’s ANDIE CHEN, you can call him a newbie- and yah, he oozes star potential.

Polite, playful, personable, he’s one hottie any gal would love to date.

ANDIE is hitting the SINGAPORE tube soon with his debut ENGLISH drama series called FIGHTING SPIDERS.

And “hitting” your heart too, if you ever allow this to happen.

Well, for now, ANDIE has all the right notes in his favor.

YOUR AGE?

I am a GEMINI, an OX (Chinese Zodiac), now in my perky 24, with loads of things to learn about show business.

SPORTS AND HOBBIES?

I am a SPORTS FREAK, I dance (Hip Hop/Jazz), I train a little in MUAY THAI, I play basketball, badminton, run, swim,  hit the gym. And when I am not working or working out, I choose time to spend with my family and my dog. I hate to admit this, but I think I’ve to admit that my vice is computing.  If you see a character named DOMOMOMO strolling beside yours in WORLD OF WAR CRAFT - yah, that’s ME ….taking into consideration the number of  hours I give to my “addiction”, you probably would have.   Haha ….

 

WHAT KIND OF ROLES WOULD YOU SEE YOURSELF IN?

I’d love to try all kinds – playboy, rogue, action star, anti-hero, goody two shoes.  Challenging roles that will see me learning and achieving a milestone in my career.

WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO SAY IN TERMS OF  YOUR LIFE NOW, AND YOUR CAREER SO FAR?

I am just a down-to-earth NEW artiste always on the go, on projects that can make me a better actor.  Friends ask me if it feels like living in a dream, my answer is, “NO, far from that.”

I have been training to be a performer since I was 11, and trust me, when you’re in it for so long, PASSION and DREAMS are just buzzwords at the back of your mind, a tad immature, so to speak.

What keeps me going in my belief in myself, my responsibility to my family to be the best I can be in what I do, to keep working and horning my craft to become a thinking, working professional at an international level (if I can).  I never give up!

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE SO FAR?

I have played alongside FANN WONG and PIERRE PNG in THE DEFINING MOMENT, and wrapped up a baddie role in LITTLE NONYA months ago.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR LATEST SCREEN ROLE?

Ah, it’s an ENGLISH period drama called FIGHTING SPIDERS set in the 1960s Singapore. I play TONY LEE, a quick-tempered and rebellious 22-year old amateur boxer from a broken family. In the process of coming to terms with his sacrifices, he becomes a victim of circumstances.  TONY made many mistakes that brought about dire consequences ….

AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS ROLE?

FIGHTING SPIDERS was an exceptionally physical- and- emotional draining project for me, which I gave my all.   PHYSICAL because of the sheer amount of action sequences, and EMOTIONAL  because TONY LEE reflects myself in many ways.  And to play the character, I have to dig deep into my personal fears and pain that I’ve tried to bury for so many years …..

FIGHTING SPIDERS is a fast moving, emotionally packed series that has never been attempted before on the SINGAPORE tube. It has the elements of sex, drugs and secret societies and has been touted as the SINGAPORE English channel, CHANNEL 5’s blockbuster of the year and has gotten the TV industry buzzing with excitement since the release of its TEASER this January.

SCREEN NUDITY?

Being buck naked? No problem! If the script calls for it and if it’s artistically done. A competent director helps.  (Shrieks) No, no…don’t write this one, of course I’m joking la ….
