DONNIE YEN has a mean streak. Patience and tact are traits you cannot find in his roster, sometimes.
Donnie also has an inflated ego, he bellows loud and he is action- all-the- way. In the 90s, Donnie’s film career took a nose dive and he returned to Hong Kong, did an action cop-and-robber TVB series, was unhappy about work and creative issues with TVB and called it quits with the biggest station in Hong Kong.
That year he was also cast as a policeman in Dickson Poon’s (Michelle Yeoh estranged husband) action thriller which also starred Simon Yam and Michael Wong. That film was not a box office success. He then went on to star in many action flicks.
But one thing you cannot deny. Much as you may despise him, he has his own brand of charisma. Donnie knows what he wants and is very much results-oriented. He aspires to be the biggest fight star in Asia after the admirable Jackie Chan. And he has proven that hard work, perseverance and confidence are the key ingredients of success.
Today, Donnie is a much-sought after action star, stunt choreographer, producer and film director and is predestined to be a hot and likely contender for the Jackie Chan’s “throne”.
